Job Summary
Assist in facilitation of equine experiential therapy, instruct patients in grooming, horse handling, and equitation skills, and document activity sessions in patient records. Monitor patient safety during activities and communicate any changes in status to clinical, medical, and nursing staff. Perform equine care duties including following training procedures, monitoring horse health and behavior, and cleaning stalls. Complete challenge course activities as needed. Maintain confidentiality, coordinate projects, and record meeting minutes. Requires high school diploma or GED, three years of equestrian experience, and CPR/First Aid certification.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
- CPR / First Aide
- CPI
- Minimum of three years equestrian experience
- Ability to converse in English with others to give, take and process information
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information
- Ability to multi-task
- Ability to coordinate projects
- Ability to record/transcribe general and specific meeting minutes
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to work collaboratively
- Ability to communicate with other staff to relay concerns and observations involving patient safety
- Ability to monitor the safety of patients
- Ability to follow horse training procedures
- Ability to monitor health and behavior of horses
- Ability to clean horse stalls
- Ability to complete other stable maintenance needs
- Ability to document activity sessions in the patient record
- Ability to instruct patients in grooming and horse handling procedures
- Ability to instruct patients in equitation skills
- Ability to act to preserve patient safety during activities
- Ability to communicate with clinical, medical and nursing staff regarding changes in patient status
- Ability to facilitate equine experiential activities
- Ability to facilitate challenge course activities
- Must be able to pass a substance abuse screen
- Must not be a medical marijuana cardholder
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree
- EAGALA Certification
- Three years experience facilitating group equine activates in a patient care setting
- Three years experience facilitating group recreational activities
- Three years experience in facilitating challenge course activities
