Equine Specialist - Wickenburg

Job Summary

Assist in facilitation of equine experiential therapy, instruct patients in grooming, horse handling, and equitation skills, and monitor patient safety during activities. Perform equine care duties including following training procedures, monitoring horse health and behavior, and cleaning stalls. Support clinical teams by assessing patient needs, documenting sessions, and communicating status changes regarding health or behavior. Maintain confidentiality and coordinate projects while working independently or collaboratively. Requires high school diploma, three years equestrian experience, CPR/First Aid, and CPI certification.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • CPR / First Aide
  • CPI
  • Minimum of three years equestrian experience
  • Ability to converse in English with others to give, take and process information; extensive use of telephone
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to coordinate projects
  • Ability to record/transcribe general and specific meeting minutes
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work collaboratively
  • Ability to communicate with other staff to relay concerns and observations involving patient safety
  • Ability to monitor the safety of patients
  • Ability to follow horse training procedures
  • Ability to monitor health and behavior of horses
  • Ability to clean horse stalls
  • Ability to complete other stable maintenance needs
  • Ability to document activity sessions in the patient record
  • Ability to instruct patients in grooming and horse handling procedures
  • Ability to instruct patients in equitation skills
  • Ability to assist in assessment of patient needs
  • Ability to provide activities for patients that are appropriate to age, development, needs and interest
  • Ability to act to preserve patient safety during activities
  • Ability to communicate with clinical, medical and nursing staff regarding changes in patient status including health or behavior
  • Must submit to and pass a substance abuse screen following an offer of employment and prior to reporting to work
  • Must be able to work in a drug-free environment
  • Must be willing to work in a Safety Sensitive position

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree
  • EAGALA Certification
  • Three years experience facilitating group equine activates in a patient care setting
  • Three years experience facilitating group recreational activities
  • Three years experience in facilitating challenge course activities
