Job Summary
Oversee Equestrian Center operations during set hours by managing horse care, facility maintenance, and programming for events, camps, and lessons. Supervise student employees and approved volunteers to ensure adherence to policies, safety measures, and risk management procedures. Document incidents and injuries while providing direction to staff on shift. Perform daily tasks including feeding, grooming, exercising, and turning out horses, plus cleaning equipment and facilities. Frequently oversee operations during evening, night, or weekend hours. Requires 5+ years of horse experience, current CPR/AED and First Aid certification, and ability to work up to 29 hours per week. Valid Virginia driver's license and personal vehicle required for travel.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years prior horse experience (ownership, stable employment and/or professional equine experience)
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification
- Availability to work a variety of different shifts (weekends, early morning, afternoon, late night)
- Ability to work up to 29 hours per week
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to convey clear, well-articulated information to other staff, students and visitors
- Ability to understand, speak, and write English in order to convey messages and correspond in an articulate and professional manner
- Ability to be punctual and reliable
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent computer skills
- Ability to recognize potential hazards and prevent them
- Ability to observe early signs of illness in horses and administer basic first-aid
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs
- Use of one's personal vehicle (or LU vehicles) is required for travel in the performance of the essential functions of this position
- Proof of a valid Virginia driver's license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required
Desired Qualifications
- 4-year college degree from an accredited university
- Management experience
- Experience working in the equine industry
- Desire to pursue recreation and/or the horse/equine industry as a career field
- The ability to drive a truck and trailer is preferred
