Job Summary

Integrate and harmonize public health data from disparate surveillance and clinical systems to enable multi-domain command and control capabilities. Establish relationships among available data, map data elements, create a comprehensive PH Knowledge Management data dictionary, and develop Decision Support Systems to support evidence-based public health decisions. Design interactive dashboards and heads-up displays that translate complex data into actionable intelligence for commanders and teams, while developing analytical models that correlate public health data to operational readiness and reduce risk. Document code and macros for DSS products, assist in identifying prioritized research areas, and provide real-time consultation for outbreak investigations and biosurveillance enhancement. Deliver KM-specific training and curriculum for the Public Health career field, design professional reports for stakeholders, and support conference briefings at professional forums.

Required Qualifications

  • US Citizen
  • Must be able to pass a security background check
  • Master's Degree or higher in Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics or other similar master's level degree as approved by USAFSAM/PHR
  • Strong knowledge of epidemiology, biostatistics, and public health
  • Current in Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) training or be able to complete HIPAA training within one month of employment
  • Expertise in utilizing surveillance systems
  • Capability to learn and utilize Air Force Disease Reporting Surveillance internet (AFDRSi)
  • Capability to learn and utilize Electronic Surveillance System for the Early Notification of Community-based Epidemics (ESSENCE)
  • Capability to learn and utilize Air Force Mortality Registry
  • Capability to learn and utilize Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Readiness System - Hearing Conservation (DOEHRS-HC)
  • Capability to learn and utilize the Executive Information Decision and Support Data Mart (EIDS M2)
  • Capability to learn and utilize Standard Ambulatory Disease Registry
  • Expertise in utilizing (electronic) medical record and laboratory data systems
  • Capability to utilize Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Application (AHLTA)
  • Capability to utilize Military Health Systems Genesis (MHS Genesis)
  • Capability to utilize Health Level 7 (HL7)
  • Expertise and capability to utilize Microsoft Office
  • Expertise and capability to utilize SAS
  • Expertise and capability to utilize SAS Enterprise Guide
  • At least knowledgeable with using R and/or STATA
  • Expertise and capability to utilize USAFSAM/PHR data repositories
  • Advanced analytical skills in public health/epidemiology
  • Experience and knowledge of descriptive statistics
  • Experience and knowledge of measures of association
  • Experience and knowledge of determining statistical significance
  • Experience and knowledge of modeling of data
  • Expertise and capability to create research protocols for prioritized research areas and submit these protocols to the appropriate institutional review board (IRB)
  • Expertise in using descriptive statistics
  • Expertise in using MS Office
  • Expertise in using Adobe Acrobat
  • Be current in Scientific and Technical Information (STINFO) training
  • Be current in Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) or be able to complete training within one month of employment
