Job Summary
Conduct weekly statistical analyses and reporting for CDC birth defects surveillance systems using SAS, R, and SQL to generate files, reports, and tables. Perform complex longitudinal data analysis, including prevalence ratios and trend analyses, while validating data and applying advanced epidemiologic methods like regression models. Develop study design elements, including power calculations, data management plans, and procedures for case ascertainment, then provide guidance to subject-matter experts on protocol modifications and surveillance system analysis. Prepare manuscripts, briefing materials, and technical documentation for publications and presentations. This role supports the National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities, requiring a Bachelor's degree in Public Health or related field and three years of public health surveillance experience.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Health Sciences, Biology, Nursing, or a related field
- Minimum of 3 years of experience supporting public health surveillance, epidemiology, healthcare data collection, or public health program operations
- Experience managing and analyzing large public health, healthcare, or surveillance datasets
- Proficiency in SAS, R, SQL, and data visualization tools
- Knowledge of epidemiologic methods, statistical analysis, data quality management, and public health surveillance systems
- Experience preparing technical documentation and communicating analytic findings to diverse audiences
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
Desired Qualifications
- Master's degree in Epidemiology, Public Health, Biostatistics, Data Science, or a related discipline
- 5+ years of relevant experience
- Familiarity with CDC data standards, human subjects protections, IRB processes, and federal data governance requirements
- Experience working with multi-state surveillance systems and collaborating with state health departments and public health partners
