Epidemiologist Data Scientist

Job Summary

Lead quantitative analysis and modeling of real-world data, including CMS, commercial claims, and clinical health datasets, to generate actionable insights for federal public health. Design, implement, and refine machine learning and statistical models for surveillance and research purposes while developing and maintaining data pipelines and dashboards using R, Python, SQL, DataBricks, and Snowflake. Collaborate with epidemiologists and clinicians to interpret findings, prepare scientific reports for technical and non-technical audiences, and ensure data quality across all analytic workflows. Requires a Master's degree in Data Science or related fields, two years of health data science experience, and ability to obtain Public Trust clearance.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to Obtain Public Trust
  • Must be able to OBTAIN and MAINTAIN a Federal or DHS "PUBLIC TRUST
  • Masters degree in Data Science, Epidemiology, Public Health, Biostatistics, or STEM related field
  • TWO (2) or more years material experience in health data science and epidemiology
  • deep experience analyzing real-world data (RWD)
  • including surveillance, commercial claims data, clinical data, or other large health datasets to generate epidemiological population-level estimates
  • Experience in R, Python (including libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn), and SQL
  • including large data set manipulation
  • Experience in biostatistics and using statistical platforms
  • specifically SAS
  • conducting epidemiological analyses
  • Experience in geospatial analyses using QGIS, ArcGIS, etc.
  • Experience with statistical modeling, machine learning, and data visualization

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with generative AI, NLP, or advanced analytics in healthcare settings
  • Strong background in population-level public health
  • experience in scientific writing and presentation
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment independently to produce high-quality deliverables on-time
  • Prior experience conducting real-world evidence (RWE) studies
  • Familiarity with public health surveillance systems, local/state/federal health programs, or similar public sector environments
  • Experience in disease surveillance
  • Experience with DataBricks, Snowflake, and/or Palantir Foundry
  • Prior publication history in peer-reviewed journals
  • Prior work in consulting and working with multi-disciplinary teams and stakeholder engagement
