Job Summary
Substation Physical Engineer responsible for outdoor substation physical design on EPC projects, developing equipment layouts, grounding plans, conduit/cable routing, foundation layouts, and bus configurations. Perform engineering calculations (grounding, conductor sizing, clearances), read and develop drawings (one-line, plan/elevation, grounding layouts), and coordinate with Protection & Control, SCADA, Civil/Structural, and Transmission Line teams to deliver integrated, constructible designs. Prepare engineered drawings, calculations, reports, material take-offs, and construction support documentation; support EPC proposal development and continuous improvement of processes and standards; provide field and procurement support, and maintain organized project records. Background requires knowledge of substation equipment, IEEE/NESC/NEC standards, and proficiency with AutoCAD, MicroStation, Bentley OpenUtilities, CDEGS, STAAD, MathCAD, or similar tools; PE license preferred; willingness to support multiple substation projects across transmission and distribution with a focus on quality and collaboration.
Required Qualifications
- B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university
- Minimum of 4+ years of relevant experience with a B.S. or 3+ years with an M.S.
- Demonstrated experience developing substation physical design packages for transmission and distribution substations
- Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, Bentley OpenUtilities, CDEGS, STAAD, MathCAD, or similar tools
