Job Summary
Governance-focused, remunerated Community Member role for Te Kaunihera to advise the Practice, Policy and Partnerships Committee on Māori perspectives, tikanga, and policy related to Māori mental health and wellbeing. Responsibilities include participating in two online meetings and two full-day in-person meetings per year, preparing for discussions, contributing to other working groups, and offering cultural guidance and strategic advice grounded in kaupapa Māori. The appointment runs for three years, with potential for reappointment, and candidates should be respected within their iwi, hapū, or communities and able to support informed decision-making and strengthen partnerships while ensuring Māori voices are reflected in planning and service delivery.
Required Qualifications
- Strong connections with Māori communities, whānau, hapū, iwi, or Māori networks
- Lived experience and/or experience within community, whānau, or advocacy contexts, including engagement with mental health services and/or psychiatrists
- Understanding of governance principles and strategic thinking
- Ability to contribute collaboratively within an advisory environment
- Confidence in providing cultural advice and Māori perspectives
- Commitment to improving outcomes for Māori
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Previous governance, advisory, leadership, or community advocacy experience will be highly regarded
