Job Summary
EO/IR Special Technology Engineering Manager (Level K) at The Boeing Company leads and manages an EO/IR engineering team within Phantom Works under Boeing Defense and Space to develop and execute engineering and technical development activities in electro-optic and infrared systems and materials. Responsibilities include overseeing technical approaches, products and processes; developing and maintaining customer and partner relationships; coordinating cross-functional teams; staffing and resource management; and driving process improvements. Position is onsite (Tukwila or Kent, WA) with requirement to obtain US Top Secret/SCI clearance and US citizenship. The role emphasizes leadership, program and project management, modeling and simulation of EO/IR systems, thin-film development and fabrication, optics design, and collaboration across PW, BR&T, and external providers. Salary range: $151,300–$204,700 with relocation offered depending on eligibility.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical or Aeronautical) or related field
- 9+ years of related work experience with a bachelor’s or 7+ years with a Master’s or 4+ years with a PhD
- at least one year of leadership experience (team leader, temp manager, large scale cross functional project/program management, or formal manager experience) or completion of Boeing internal leadership course
- Experience with EO/IR systems and technologies
- Experience in thin film development and fabrication, optics design, material selection, analysis and testing
- Experience with system-level EO/IR modeling and simulation
- Ability to obtain a US Top Secret/SCI security clearance (citizenship required)
- Experience developing and executing project and process plans, policy/procedure implementation and goal setting
- Experience staffing and resource Acquisitions for projects; technical management of suppliers
- Strong relationship-building with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners and direct reports
- Experience leading cross-functional teams to resolve complex technical issues
- Hands-on experience with integration, lab testing, and troubleshooting
- Experience with staffing (hiring or allocating personnel resources)
- Strong leadership and people-management skills
- Preferred: MS in EE/Physics, active TS/SCI clearance
