Environmental Waste Specialist

Job Summary

Manage hazardous waste by treating and deactivating energetic wastes, moving packaged waste to bunkers, and disposing of production-generated waste. Assist with loading/unloading materials, preparing offsite shipments, collecting samples, and maintaining electronic and paper documentation to meet regulatory requirements. Prepare hazardous waste manifests and land disposal restriction notifications while developing and presenting environmental compliance training. Perform housekeeping duties, conduct inspections of fire equipment and bunkers, drive the company vehicle, and operate a forklift as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the United States (ITAR restrictions)
  • Must be at least 18 years of age to work at this facility
  • Must be eligible to possess explosives under the Safe Explosives Act of 2003 (as amended) as required by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF)
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Proficiency with Word and Excel computer applications
  • Ability to become proficient in our internal Document Control system (SharePoint)
  • Ability to become proficient in our internal Enterprise Resource Management platform system (XRM)
  • Successful completion of RCRA 40 hour Hazardous Waste Regulations within 6 months of hire per regulations
  • DOT Hazmat Ground Shipper Training within 90 days of hire per regulations
  • Complete manifest training via D.O.T. or RCRA upon hire
  • Ability to communicate and document effectively in English
  • Ability to multi-task in support of end-result/goal
  • Ability to work effectively with other employees as part of a team
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to become forklift certified upon hire
  • Function specific RCRA training upon hire
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a driver's license upon hire
  • Ability to talk and hear in order to communicate with others
  • Ability to stand and/or walk throughout the facility both indoors and outdoors
  • Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or feel as well as reach with hands and arms
  • Ability to lift 10 pounds
  • Ability to move by pushing, pulling or lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to occasionally bend, squat or kneel
  • Close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus when viewing a computer monitor
  • Ability to wear a minimum of 50% cotton clothing including undergarments to mitigate electrostatic discharge (ESD)
  • Ability to wear company issued safety footwear

  • Experience and/or training related to explosives handling safety or hazardous waste handling
