Environmental Specialist

Job Summary

Provide specialist environmental advice and support across all business divisions, ensuring compliance with applicable legislation, permits, and client requirements. Monitor and report on environmental KPIs, incidents, and trends while assisting with audits, inspections, and management reviews. Conduct site assessments, investigate non-conformances, and champion a positive environmental culture through training and awareness campaigns. This role requires a degree in Environmental Management or related discipline, IEMA Associate Membership, and a Full UK Driving Licence. Candidates must be willing to travel nationally. The position supports Lanes Group's ESG objectives and sustainability programmes within its diverse service provider subsidiaries.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in an Environmental, Sustainability, HSEQ, or Compliance role
  • Strong understanding of environmental legislation and compliance requirements
  • Experience supporting environmental management systems, preferably ISO 14001
  • Experience conducting environmental audits, inspections, and investigations
  • Ability to analyse data and produce accurate reports and recommendations
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving abilities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and reporting tools
  • Full UK Driving Licence and willingness to travel nationally
  • Degree, HND, or equivalent qualification in Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Sustainability, Geography, Ecology, or a related discipline
  • IEMA Associate Membership (AIEMA) or above, or willingness to work towards professional membership

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience within utilities, infrastructure, drainage, wastewater, construction, engineering, or operational services environments
  • Knowledge of carbon reporting, net zero strategies, ESOS, SECR, or sustainability reporting
  • Experience managing waste, resource management, pollution prevention, and environmental permits
  • Lead Auditor or Internal Auditor qualification
  • Membership of IEMA or similar professional body
  • Knowledge of Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG), climate resilience, and environmental risk management
  • Experience supporting environmental aspects of client tenders and contract submissions
