Job Summary
Provide scientific and technical support for ESA Section 7 consultation, MMPA compliance, and EFH consultation under the Magnuson-Stevens Act; review federal actions (BOEM offshore wind, ACOE/FERC permits) for impacts to marine species and habitats; draft recommendations to minimize, avoid, or mitigate impacts; conduct literature reviews, review EIS and Site Assessment Plans, analyze complex data to assess impacts to fishery resources; draft technical reports, biological opinions, and correspondence; attend meetings, conference calls, and site visits; prepare maps and geographic displays; maintain electronic filing systems and milestone tracking; provide recommendations to HESD/PRD on federal actions within prescribed deadlines; responsibilities include reviewing federal permits and environmental documents for impacts to protected species and fishery habitats daily and drafting comments and regulatory documents per deadlines; desired responsibilities include conducting EFH consultations for offshore wind energy projects and representing GARFO HESD/PRD in interagency coordination meetings and site visits, with education and experience milestones including a Bachelor's and 3+ years with related programs, plus preferred Master's and GIS capabilities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in marine biology, environmental science, natural resources, oceanography, or related field
- 3+ years in ESA Section 7 consultation, MMPA, and/or EFH consultation
