Job Summary
Environmental Specialist III (Contract, Remote, US) supports NOAA Fisheries GARFO PRD in ESA and MMPA-related activities, including Section 7 consultations, stranding and disentanglement response, NEPA document preparation and review, and species recovery planning. Responsibilities include providing technical assistance for biological assessments, developing and documenting formal and informal consultations, managing records, conducting literature reviews, contributing to take reduction and gear analyses, coordinating NEPA analyses, preparing reports and briefing materials, and performing general PRD administrative support. Must hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a closely related environmental field (or equivalent experience) and have 3+ years of relevant experience. US citizenship required; fully remote within the United States with occasional travel.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or master's degree in environmental science, biology, ecology, fisheries biology, marine biology, natural resource management, conservation biology, landscape ecology, restoration ecology, or a closely related field (or two additional years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree)
- 3+ years of experience in ESA Section 7 consultation, MMPA compliance, stranding response, NEPA preparation, or related disciplines
- Demonstrated knowledge of ESA Sections 4, 7, and 10; MMPA Sections 401-404 and 118; and NEPA requirements
- Strong technical writing, analytical, and oral communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and electronic database systems
