Job Summary
Environmental Specialist II position with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Schedule and conduct inspections and collect samples to determine compliance with environmental and pesticide-related statutes and rules. Conduct investigations, prepare and submit written reports, issue corrective notices, and maintain knowledge of applicable regulations. Communicate with the public, participate in enforcement activities, and may represent the department in administrative hearings or meetings. Requires travel, outside work hours flexibility, and eventual licensure in restricted-use pesticides; valid driver license required. Headquarters are negotiable statewide with Broward and Lake County territories; frequent travel and deployment for incident response are possible.
Required Qualifications
- A high school diploma or its equivalent and one (1) year of experience in environmental protection, regulation, or health; one of the physical or natural sciences; agriculture; or engineering; or
- A high school diploma or its equivalent and six (6) months of experience as an Environmental Specialist I or higher with the State of Florida; or
- A bachelor's degree (4 years) from an accredited college or university.
- Requires possession of a valid Class E driver license.
- Must obtain restricted-use pesticide license within six months of initial employment and must maintain licensure thereafter.
- Will be subject to the requirements of the proper use of appropriate respirator and/or self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and must pass post-employment physical examinations to determine medical fitness for respirator and/or SCBA use.
