Environmental Specialist/ Assistant Environmental Manager

Job Summary
Ensure compliance with environmental laws and permits regarding air emissions, wastewater, and waste management while monitoring regulatory obligations and escalating risks. Support Department of Environment submissions, inspections, and reporting by maintaining accurate records of permits, monitoring results, and audit findings. Coordinate environmental monitoring programs, review laboratory data for trends, and develop KPI dashboards to track performance. Conduct routine inspections of pollution control systems, chemical storage, and stormwater facilities to assess operational effectiveness. Develop procedures, SOPs, and training materials to drive continuous improvement and foster a strong compliance culture. Collaborate with operations, engineering, and external stakeholders on project reviews, audits, and incident investigations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Management, or related studies
- Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in environmental compliance, environmental management, EHS, manufacturing, semiconductor, electronics, chemical, or industrial environments
- Strong knowledge of Malaysian environmental regulations, DOE requirements, Scheduled Waste Regulations, air emissions, wastewater treatment systems, and environmental monitoring programs
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, investigation, and report-writing skills
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and data analysis tools
- Experience working directly with regulatory authorities and managing environmental compliance reporting
- Experience leading environmental improvement projects and compliance initiatives
Desired Qualifications
- Experience managing or supporting Industrial Effluent Treatment Systems (IETS) and Air Pollution Control Systems (APCS) is highly preferred
- Familiarity with ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems and environmental auditing processes
- Certified Environmental Professional in Scheduled Waste Management (CePSWaM) and/or Certified Environmental Professional in Industrial Effluent Treatment System (CePIETSO) would be an added advantage
