Job Summary
Environmental & Social Due Diligence Lead in Global Banking advises deal teams on environmental and social risks, applying frameworks (Equator Principles, IFC Performance Standards, World Bank EHS Guidelines) to transactions across power, mining & metals, oil & gas, and soft commodities. Responsibilities include evaluating risk profiles, providing risk-based recommendations to bankers and legal/compliance teams, developing clear written materials, enhancing ESG training, and contributing to strategic planning to strengthen the risk program. The role emphasizes staying current on topics like human rights, climate change, energy efficiency, and energy transition, with opportunities to broaden scope across sectors and deal types, delivering practical, deal-ready guidance, and building trusted-advisor relationships internally and externally.
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to perform environmental and social risk due diligence for complex corporate transactions
- Working knowledge of the Equator Principles, IFC Performance Standards, and World Bank Environmental, Health and Safety Guidelines
- Familiarity with sustainable finance guidance including sustainability-linked loan principles and guidance, EU Taxonomy, and Climate Bonds Initiative Taxonomy
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess incomplete information, identify material risks, and form well-reasoned recommendations
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical topics to non-specialists and senior stakeholders
- Client-focused mindset with the ability to deliver practical, commercially relevant advice while maintaining risk discipline
- Proven ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously and deliver high-quality output under time pressure
- Experience collaborating across functions, including with legal, compliance, and independent risk partners
- Sector awareness across energy and natural resources value chains, including power, mining and metals, oil and gas, and soft commodities
- Commitment to staying current on emerging environmental topics, regulatory developments, and market practices relevant to client activity
- Fluency in Spanish preferable
- Experience advising on sustainable finance structures, documentation expectations, or market standards across products
- Demonstrated ability to design or deliver training programs on environmental and social risk topics
- Familiarity with carbon markets, climate strategy, or transition planning considerations relevant to corporate clients
