Job Summary
Environmental Field Scientist 1 at Apex Companies leads on-site environmental inspections across operational sites to evaluate hazardous waste handling, universal waste/e-waste management, stormwater and wastewater systems, air emissions and refrigerant management, and overall facility environmental compliance. Responsibilities include inspecting loading docks, fuel systems, waste storage, and material handling areas; reviewing Hazardous waste manifests, emergency response plans, spill logs, inspection checklists, training records, environmental permits, and performance data; preparing detailed inspection reports using standardized online platforms; proposing corrective actions to address gaps; and performing field sampling (stormwater, wastewater, air, etc.). Requires travel within a 300-mile radius and the ability to drive to client sites; role is based in Tampa with frequent travel and standard business hours with some on-call coverage.
Required Qualifications
- BA/BS in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Management, Biology, Geology, Engineering, Data Analytics, or related discipline
- 0-3+ years of experience conducting environmental inspections, audits, or regulatory compliance assessments
- Experience in distribution, logistics, warehousing, or manufacturing environments strongly preferred
- Knowledge of key environmental regulations (RCRA, EPCRA, Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, DOT hazardous materials)
- Ability to interpret environmental records, manifests, and regulatory documentation
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, audit tools, and reporting platforms
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable working independently in field settings
- Valid driver's license with clean driving record
- Successful completion of medical screening and pre-employment drug testing
