Job Summary
Receive and log environmental samples into the Laboratory Information Management System, preparing inorganic and organic specimens for analysis using EPA and ASTM methodologies. Conduct routine housekeeping, manage inventory for sample bottles, and perform sample preservation procedures to ensure integrity. Order supplies, review data entry, and coordinate sample sub-outs while maintaining OSHA safety compliance and supporting internal teams. This three-month contract with Georgia Power in Atlanta requires strong attention to detail and familiarity with wet chemistry protocols.
Required Qualifications
- Strong attention to detail
- Technical knowledge of laboratory practices
- Ability to perform effectively in a high-volume, regulated laboratory environment
- Experience in handling and preparing environmental samples for analysis according to EPA, ASTM, or similar protocols
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interface effectively with internal teams and plant personnel
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)
- Familiarity with instrument and data management software
- Understanding of OSHA laboratory safety requirements under 40 CFR 1910
Desired Qualifications
- Some college coursework — Science-based studies (Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, etc.)
- Experience in a National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Conference (NELAC) or other highly regulated laboratory environment
- Prior work in the Sample Receiving department of a high-volume laboratory
- Wet chemistry experience (e.g., pH, ammonia, alkalinity, turbidity, etc.)
