Environmental Inspector I

Job Summary
Conduct field inspections of industrial, commercial, construction, and residential sites to ensure compliance with environmental regulations, including air, water, and hazardous waste standards. Collect and analyze environmental samples such as soil, water, and air while using monitoring equipment to measure pollutant levels. Prepare detailed inspection reports, document violations, and issue notices of non-compliance or enforcement actions. Interpret federal, state, and local regulations to provide guidance to businesses, developers, and the public on design criteria. Collaborate with engineers and scientists to develop mitigation strategies and assist in preparing environmental impact assessments. Work independently in varying weather conditions across urban, rural, and remote locations, with minimal supervision and occasional weekend travel.
Required Qualifications
- High School Degree
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position for long periods of time
- Must be able to see, read, write, and speak
- Must be able to lift 20 lbs
- Must be able to walk for periods of time including maneuvering uneven, uphill, and downhill terrain
- Must be able to work outdoors in all kinds of weather
- Must be able to travel 5% out-of-town
- Must be able to come into the Stow, Ohio office to retrieve/return company vehicle each day or on an as needed basis
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of construction techniques
- Knowledge of soils
- Understanding of stormwater runoff
- Knowledge of the Ohio EPA Construction General Permit (OHC00006)
- Knowledge of construction Best Management Practices as described in the Ohio Department of Natural Resources' Rainwater and Land Development Manual
- Customer Service experience
- Problem solving mindset
- Thrive in independent/solo work environments
- Consultative or educational approach to client relationships
