Job Summary
Environmental Health Technician duties include assisting the Environmental Health Manager to ensure compliance with federal, state, and county regulations, reviewing OWTS permits, issuing licenses, and maintaining records; the role also divides time 50% with Emergency Preparedness Coordinator responsibilities to develop and implement local/regional public health emergency response plans, collaborate with regional partners, plan exercises, and provide technical guidance on ESF #8 and related programs. The position requires fieldwork (site evaluations, inspections), coordination of permits and licenses, and interagency collaboration for emergency preparedness, with responsibilities spanning administrative, planning, budgeting, and public health program activities. Qualifications emphasize a bachelor’s degree in public health, environmental health, or emergency management (or equivalent experience) and at least six months of relevant experience; proficiency in maps/GIS, data management, writing, communication, and program management is expected.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor degree from an accredited college or university in public health, environmental health, or emergency management; or education and experience providing the required knowledge and skills
- Minimum of six (6) months experience in environmental health and emergency preparedness
- Experience with environmental health regulations is desirable
