Job Summary
Environmental Health Specialist in Training role based in Dover, OH. Requirements include a bachelor's degree in a related scientific field with required science coursework approved by the Ohio Department of Health, an active Environmental Health Specialist License, strong computer proficiency, a valid Ohio driver’s license, nicotine-free hiring, and successful completion of drug screening and background checks. The role emphasizes documentation, training delivery to staff, and ongoing professional development in environmental health science and technology.
Required Qualifications
- Baccalaureate Degree in environmental science, electronics, mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology, physical sciences, public health, or related field with at least 45 quarter units or 30 semester units of science courses approved by the Ohio Department of Health, Environmental Health Specialist Registration
- Active Environmental Health Specialist License from the Ohio Department of Health (and willingness to maintain)
- Valid Ohio driver’s license with good driving record
- Must be computer proficient (Microsoft Office and database applications, including web-based collaboration tools)
- Must sign and abide by nicotine-free hiring policy
- Must successfully complete drug screen and background check
- Must be able to inspect, investigate, and evaluate compliance with rules and regulations; maintain documentation in electronic systems
- Ability to work with diverse groups and participate in committees/workgroups
- Ability to respond to public health emergencies
- Maintains credentials, skills, and training in environmental health science and technology
- Essential duties include inspections across food protection, pools, schools, tattoo/body art, waste management, nuisance control, vector control, lead hazard reduction, private water systems, household sewage treatment, and other environmental health areas
