Job Summary

Supervise the Safety and Compliance program within the Environmental Health & Safety department, coordinating up to two technical staff and leading planning for environmental health, safety, and permitting programs aligned with CMS, Joint Commission, OSHA, and local permits. Conduct safety surveys, investigate incidents, manage hazardous materials, and assist in emergency responses while developing and monitoring hazard controls across all Brigham Health locations. Identify workplace hazards, deliver training to varied audiences, and collect data to maintain compliance with pertinent codes and ensure business continuity. This role covers assignments at all sites, requires on-call rotation for urgent matters, and involves periodic off-hours travel to off-site facilities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science or equivalent degree in the environmental health & safety or related field
  • 3-5 years of experience
  • Knowledge in Building Engineering Systems and Trades
  • Experience reading blueprints/floorplans
  • Basic competency in general chemistry
  • Capable of performing tasks while wearing a respirator and/or other personal protective equipment
  • Physically able to perform tasks such as walking, standing, climbing, lifting, carrying
  • Must be able to wear a respirator and other personal protective equipment

  • Must be capable of frequent multitasking
  • Must take on-call duties in a regular schedule rotating with other department staff on regular and off-hours
  • Must travel to off-site facilities periodically to respond and/or investigate incidents or support program needs
  • Must handle conflict tactfully and constructively
  • Ability to interact effectively with people individually and in small groups
  • Presentation skills; proficiency in verbal and written English language communication; ability to deliver training presentations to varied audiences of varied sizes
  • Efficient team meeting management and facilitation
  • Flexibility and teamwork
  • Computer competency with general office software and apps

Desired Qualifications

  • Master of Science in health, safety, risk or public health related field
  • Professional certifications (e.g. CSP, CIH, CHMM, HEM)
  • OSHA HAZWOPER Certification
  • RCRA/DOT Certification
  • Experience with CMS/Joint Commission Codes
  • Ability to read sources of chemical hazard information, recognize risks and apply pertinent safety practices
