Job Summary
The Environmental Health Inspector I is an entry-level role responsible for assisting with inspections, monitoring, and enforcement of environmental health standards across public health settings. Primary duties include conducting routine inspections of food establishments, water systems, and sanitation facilities; identifying health and safety violations and recommending corrective actions; collecting and analyzing samples of food, water, and other materials; preparing inspection reports and tracking corrective actions; participating in public health outreach and providing basic information on environmental health practices to the public and businesses; and handling inquiries related to environmental health concerns. The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and the ability to complete on-the-job training to obtain REHS certification within a specified time; frequent in-state travel and a valid driver’s license are required.
