Job Summary
City Research Scientist Level I responsibilities include providing training on occupational health and safety topics (primarily via virtual sessions with occasional in-person meetings), conducting assessments of indoor air quality, workplace ergonomics, and electromagnetic fields; performing and analyzing hearing tests; reviewing asbestos surveys and providing reports/recommendations to city agencies; participating in labor management meetings; offering technical guidance to city agencies on OSHA/environmental health and safety issues; leading occupational health and safety walkthroughs at various city sites; preparing comprehensive environmental health and safety reports; advising on violations issued by NYS Department of Labor; assisting with calibration of COSH equipment; maintaining COSH records; travel across the five boroughs using public transportation or a DCAS-issued vehicle; a valid NYS driver's license is required and must be maintained throughout employment; positions require a master's degree for Assignment Level I and higher qualifications for Assignment Level II and above.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological or environmental science or in public health
- A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization; or
- Master's degree with three years of responsible full-time research experience in the appropriate field; or
- Education and/or experience equivalent to the above with at least a master's degree and two years of relevant experience
