Job Summary
Environmental / GIS Technician I provides a balance of office-based GIS work and field environmental duties. Responsibilities include collecting surface water, groundwater, soil, and gas data with field instruments; documenting field conditions; assembling, calibrating, operating, and maintaining field instruments; preparing notes and sketches; tabulating data in Excel; and performing QA/QC on large data sets. The role requires travel to project sites, after-hours availability, and adherence to safety SOPs. Must be proficient with ESRI ArcGIS, understand map coordinate systems, projections, and transformations, and possess experience with GIS data handling, GPS data input, and basic geology/environmental science knowledge. Strong written and verbal communication, organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task across multiple projects are essential.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in geology, environmental science, geography, GIS, or closely related field is required.
- Coursework or hands-on experience with GIS software (ArcGIS or QGIS) is highly preferred.
