Job Summary
Conduct site characterization and remedial investigations of surface and subsurface impacts using soil borings, test pits, geophysical surveys, and sampling of environmental media for field screening and laboratory analysis. Prepare soil boring logs, interpret vadose zone and groundwater characteristics, identify contamination pathways, and prepare technical reports to support remedial action plans. Manage field sample chain-of-custody documentation, packaging, and shipment to analytical laboratories while overseeing subcontractor field activities related to environmental investigation and remediation projects. Support coordination of utility locating, surveying, drilling, and remediation efforts under project manager direction. Communicate effectively with project teams, subcontractors, and clients regarding field activities and changing site conditions. Proactively address health and safety concerns and recognize risks affecting project teams.
Required Qualifications
- 2 years of relevant environmental consulting or related experience
- Bachelor's degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Geochemistry, Soil Science, Geological Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related scientific discipline
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
- U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident
- Ability to travel and perform field work, including overnight travel as required by project needs
- Successful candidate will have to pass a background check
- All newly hired employees are required to attend an in-person Day 1 onboarding at an AECOM office location as a condition of employment
Desired Qualifications
- 3+ years of environmental investigation and remediation consulting experience
- Experience conducting environmental site assessments, site characterization, groundwater investigations, and remediation projects under Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) programs or similar state regulatory frameworks
- Experience supporting industrial, commercial, mining, energy, or federal environmental projects
- Knowledge of environmental sampling methods and experience using field equipment such as GPS units, PID/FID instruments, water quality meters, and electronic data collection systems
- Experience performing independent field work and overseeing subcontractors
- Strong technical writing, data management, and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and environmental data management software
- OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification (current or ability to obtain)
- OSHA 10-Hour and/or 30-Hour Construction Safety training
- First Aid/CPR certification preferred
- Working knowledge of groundwater systems, hydrogeologic characterization, and environmental regulatory compliance
- Candidates who reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the Phoenix office
