Environmental Engineer, Civil
$203,000–$250,000 year
On-siteAustin, Texas, United States
Job Summary
Lead environmental and civil engineering for data center site development, managing stormwater, grading, drainage, and erosion control from first site walk-through to permits in hand. Drive environmental permitting through agencies and consultants, including SWPPP, wetlands, and land disturbance approvals, while screening prospective sites for fatal flaws like wetlands or floodplains before capital commitment. Coordinate civil design with structural and architectural scopes to ensure complete site packages and zero rework, and manage third-party consultants by holding deliverables to schedule and rejecting non-permit-ready work. Sequence environmental compliance against construction speed to keep sites moving.
Required Qualifications
- You've taken industrial or large commercial sites through environmental permitting yourself
- You've screened raw land for development risk and made the call that saved a project from a fatal flaw
- You've worked directly with regulators (the Corps, state environmental agencies, county authorities) and secured approvals without slipping the schedule
- You've managed AE and environmental consultants and sent work back when it wasn't ready
- You read grading and drainage plans fluently and redline them with specifics, elevations and pipe sizes rather than general comments
- You've sequenced environmental compliance against construction speed, satisfying the permit while keeping the site moving
Desired Qualifications
- Bonus: PE license (civil or environmental)
- Data center, solar, or heavy industrial site development
- Multi-state permitting
- Civil 3D or hydrology modeling tools
- Karst, floodplain, or brownfield site experience
