Job Summary

Environmental Compliance Specialist / Environmental Scientist role focused on leading and performing environmental compliance audits, Phase I environmental site assessments, and environmental inspections for projects within WSP’s Earth & Environment team. Responsibilities include developing procedures and permits, preparing regulatory reports, delivering environmental training, writing and presenting technical reports and data analyses, maintaining client relationships, ensuring quality control, and adhering to safety and corporate policies. The position requires collaboration with cross-functional teams, capacity to manage multiple priorities, travel up to 60% (including short-notice trips), and the ability to work in industrial settings with rough terrain. Preferred Masters degree and experience with Phase I assessments and environmental due diligence in transportation corridors are a plus.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Environmental Policy, Engineering, Earth Science or related discipline
  • 3+ years of manufacturing experience in an environmental compliance role and working knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations
  • Must be able to pass a HAZWOPER physical and be medically able to wear a respirator
  • Experience with evaluating/maintaining environmental regulatory compliance in industrial settings
  • Valid US driver’s license
  • Participation in an OSHA-mandated medical surveillance program will be required, and safety training will be provided before being assigned to work on these sites
  • Ability to travel up to 60% of the time (overnight travel may be required)
  • Self-sufficient, self-motivated and ability to work under pressure of deadlines
  • Knowledge of relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements
  • Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a scientific and non-scientific audience
  • Moderate proficiency with business writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools
