Environmental Compliance Specialist / Environmental Scientist

Job Summary
Conduct Phase 1 environmental site assessments, environmental inspections, and due diligence assessments for industrial clients. Develop compliance procedures, permits, and regulatory reports while preparing technical documentation of audits, field investigations, and data analysis. Maintain quality control standards for measurements and adhere to safety guidelines, including OSHA HAZWOPER requirements and site-specific procedures. Work with cross-functional teams, manage client relationships, and perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. This role involves 50% office and 50% client-site time with occasional overnight travel within the Southeast Region.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Environmental Policy, Engineering, Earth Science or related discipline.
- Must be willing to work on a variety of projects and be eager to develop new skills.
- Must be able to pass an OSHA HAZWOPER physical and be medically able to wear a respirator.
- Valid US driver's license.
- Must be able to work in locations that feature rough terrain and work in conditions typical of industrial facilities.
- Occasional overnight travel within the region may be required to support client needs.
- An average workload of 50% of time spent in the office and 50% spent at client sites should be expected.
- Self-sufficient, self-motivated and ability to work under pressure of deadlines is essential.
- Interest and proficiency in investigative work, with attention to detail.
- Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
- Capable of interpersonal and effective communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a scientific and non-scientific audience.
- Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies.
- Moderate proficiency with business writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, and identify the most effective manner to accomplish objectives of assigned projects.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
Desired Qualifications
- 3+ years of manufacturing experience in an environmental compliance role and working knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
- Experience conducting Phase I environmental site assessments following ASTM International Standard E 1527-13.
- Experience conducting environmental due diligence assessments of roadway and other transportation cooridors.
