Job Summary
Environmental Compliance Specialist responsibilities include overseeing the development of contracts for environmental components of construction and environmental projects; coordinating procurement and bid negotiations; conducting environmental compliance inspections across waste management (RCRA/NYS REG), storm water (MSGP/MS4/SPDES), petroleum storage remediation (PBS, SPCC), and wetlands; performing complex research and serving as agency environmental liaison; supervising design, inspection, testing, and contractor activities to ensure compliance with permits, regulations, and contracts; assisting in the preparation of environmental permits; resolving environmental violations; developing and maintaining agency environmental programs, policies, procedures, and training; located at 1 Police Plaza, NYC, with a standard Monday–Friday schedule; requires advanced degrees in physical, biological, environmental science or public health and supervisory/research experience for higher assignment levels.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in physical, biological or environmental science or in public health (for Assignment Level I)
- Doctorate degree required for Assignment Level II and above or a Master's with three years of responsible full-time research experience and additional specific progression options as described in the posting
- Two years as City Research Scientist Level I can be substituted for the experience required in Level II or Level I pathways
- One year of full-time supervisory, administrative or research experience for advancement to higher levels
- Probationary period of one year
- Eligibility verification to work in the United States as required by federal law
