Job Summary
The Business Unit Manager (BUMa) at Eurofins Rhode Island leads laboratory operations to maintain healthy margins and achieve annual budgets. Responsibilities include leading and training staff, ensuring high quality and efficiency, managing coverage and performance, fostering morale, coordinating technical activities, ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental programs, maintaining client relationships, and contributing to marketing strategies and business expansion. The role requires oversight of budgeting, capital expenses, senior staff management, revenue and cost control, and collaboration with cross-location teams, with a hybrid working setup noted as part of the role. The position demands strong leadership, regulatory familiarity (EPA/DOT/OSHA/DOL), and the ability to drive growth while upholding safety and quality in laboratory operations.
Required Qualifications
- At least 10 years of supervisory experience
- At least 10 years professional experience in laboratory operations with a minimum of 5 years of laboratory operations or large/multi-department/team leadership with profit/loss accountability (e.g. $5M+ Net Sales)
- Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or related field (or equivalent directly-related experience)
- Familiarity with EPA, DOT, OSHA, and DOL regulations
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to manage a business at a profit/loss responsibility level
- Ability to develop and enforce policies and operating practices
- Experience coordinating cross-location activities and collaborating with Sales/Marketing teams
- Knowledge of quality systems and SOP documentation
- Experience with budgeting and capital expense decisions
- Demonstrated ability to drive operational, quality, safety and financial performance
