Job Summary

Implement EPA standard methods for organic and inorganic analysis using GC-MS, ICP-MS, ICP-OES, and ion chromatography, including sample preparation and QA-QC compliance. Develop or modify analytical procedures for complex matrices, assist with leaching test methods, and maintain laboratory equipment. Train students, postdocs, and scholars in SOPs for selected instrumentation while documenting policies and ensuring safety culture. Report instrument or process issues to lab leadership and participate in their resolution. Requires a Bachelor's in chemistry (MS or PhD preferred) with at least five years of experience in the specified instruments and EPA standard methods. Reports to the Environmental Engineering Laboratory Manager.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in chemistry or related field
  • At least 5 years' experience with one or more of the following instruments: gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy (GC-MS), inductively coupled plasma-mass spectroscopy (ICP-MS), inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES)
  • Technical understanding of basic lab procedures, safety culture and compliance requirements
  • Analytical and quantitative skills with meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills

  • ICP-OES (secondary preferred)
  • Familiar with EPA Standard Methods
