Job Summary
Remove asbestos and asbestos materials from district facilities in accordance with government rules and regulations as directed by the Environmental Foreman or Director of Facility Design. Operate all asbestos respiratory and safety equipment, including mechanical respirators, while working in EPA containment environments, tight spaces, and areas with dust, high heat, and moisture. Perform cleaning activities per MISD asbestos abatement or O&M schedules, repair and replace carpet, tile, and ceiling materials, and pass annual medical exams to maintain worker licensure. Attend and complete a 24-hour instruction class with hands-on training before applying to register as an asbestos worker in Texas.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED
- Make applications to register as an asbestos worker in the State of Texas
- Good physical condition and have no respiratory problems
- Must have a respirator fit test administered by a competent person
- Attend and pass a 24 hours of instruction, 8 hours of which must be hands on training
- Knowledge of Asbestos removal equipment
- Heavy lifting, 50 to 100 lbs
- Climbing, reaching overhead
- Use of arms and legs
- Breath with mechanical respirator
- Must stay in contained areas for long periods of time
- Use of fingers
- Standing, walking, repetitive bending
- Regular attendance required
- Must work in an EPA containment environment
