Job Summary
Lead climate change adaptation and mitigation initiatives for the Cree Nation Government by researching, planning, and coordinating projects with internal and external stakeholders. Develop strategic plans, audit greenhouse gas emissions, and establish mitigation action plans with measurable targets. Provide technical support to local governments, collaborate across departments, and secure funding from provincial and federal sources. Conduct research on alternative solutions, implement policies for Eeyou Istchee, and prepare analytical reports for leadership. Supervise direct reports, align performance objectives, and manage team development. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Canadian and Quebec climate regulations and legislative changes.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Meteorology, Environmental Science, or a related field
- Five to eight years of relevant work experience
- Fluency in English
- Fluency in French
- Knowledge of project management, climate change and northern issues
- Good knowledge of available funding initiatives and procedures
- Strong organizational and research skills and the ability to coordinate multiple projects
- Proven ability to problem-solve, to think analytically, and to take initiative
- Ability to work well independently
- Proven success in maintaining strong communications and working relationships
- Proven ability to be discreet and maintain confidentiality
- Proven ability to demonstrate strong judgment in complex situations
- Proven ability to problem-solve, to think strategically, and to take initiative
- Demonstrated ability to work under significant pressure and to adapt to a changing environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and GIS software (ArcGIS and/or other)
- Typical office setting where there are no unusual physical demands
- Willingness to travel occasionally
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in project management in a northern context an asset
- Fluency in verbal Cree is an asset
