Job Summary
Thermal Engineering role at Airbus Defence and Space GmbH in Immenstaad: Perform thermal analyses for spacecraft, payloads, instruments and mechanisms; conduct plausibility checks and manual calculations to validate analyses; assist in developing a thermal control system and its subsystems; simulate and monitor thermal tests (e.g., Thermal-Vacuum and Thermal-Balance) for satellites and components; apply SYSTEMA/Thermica and ESATAN-TMS; document models and test results; contribute to R&D studies; work in interdisciplinary, agile teams with colleagues in satellite technology, cyber-security, AI, and combat-cloud contexts; require a Master/Diplom in engineering and willingness to travel; attractive compensation, ongoing training, and international development opportunities; location: Airbus site in Immenstaad am Bodensee, Germany.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree (Master/Diplom) in engineering or similar qualification
- Knowledge of conductive, convective and radiative heat transfer processes
- Proficiency with SYSTEMA/Thermica and ESATAN-TMS
- Knowledge of CFD tools for thermal analyses (beneficial)
- Proficiency in Python and MATLAB (beneficial)
- Knowledge of thermal hardware design (Heat Pipes, Thermal Straps, Thermal Switches, Thermal Diodes, Phase Change Materials, etc.) (beneficial)
- Experience with CAD tools (Catia, Autodesk Inventor) (beneficial)
- Understanding of thermal material properties
- Understanding of orbital mechanics and the solar system
- Multidisciplinary thinking and ability to see system-level interactions with other disciplines (Electrical, Mechanical, PA, QA, AIT)
- Ability to work in a demanding environment with high autonomy
- Willingness to travel regularly
- Very good written and spoken English
