Entry-Level Traction Power Engineer

Job Summary

Assist senior engineers in the design and analysis of traction power distribution systems, including substations, overhead catenary systems, and third rail systems. Support the development of electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and equipment layouts using CAD software while performing calculations for voltage drop, current flow, and power system performance. Conduct field inspections and site visits to gather data, then assist in testing, commissioning equipment, and preparing as-built drawings. Collaborate with other engineering disciplines to prepare technical reports, specifications, and construction documents while ensuring compliance with industry standards such as NESC and IEEE. Maintain accurate project records and documentation throughout the lifecycle of electrified transportation network projects.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or in another related field
  • This position requires a hybrid work schedule which includes in office work in Philadelphia, PA
  • The selected candidate must be available to work in Philadelphia, PA on a scheduled basis
  • all newly hired employees are required to attend an in-person Day 1 onboarding at an AECOM office location as a condition of employment

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in performing Traction Power projects
  • Electrical Engineering Degree with a focus on Power Systems
  • Engineering in Training (EIT) License
  • Strong work ethic and attention to detail
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new technologies
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced dynamic work environment
  • Basic understanding of electrical power systems and circuit analysis and electrical theory
  • Familiarity with AC and DC power concepts
  • Strong interest in railway or transit systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of power system analysis software (e.g., ETAP, SKM PowerTools)
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or similar drafting software is a plus
