Job Summary
Entry Level Analytical Chemist at PPG's Aerospace materials lab (Huntsville, AL; onsite). Perform physical and chemical tests on raw materials, finished products, and development materials to ensure quality and conformance to specifications. Operate lab instruments and procedures for viscosity, hardness, stress profile, density, and other measurements; conduct materials characterization using FTIR, ICP-MS, XRF, UV-Vis, DSC, TGA, DMA, and related instrumentation. Conduct physical property testing of polymers, adhesives, sealants, and glass; interpret chemical characterization of glass samples in the context of product specifications. Analyze experimental data, prepare clear reports for multiple teams, troubleshoot material-related issues with lab and plant personnel, maintain accurate lab records, and comply with safety protocols and SOPs. Report to Materials Technology Manager; onsite role with opportunities to support additional tasks and projects.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (BS) in Analytical Chemistry, Materials Science
- At least one year of hands-on laboratory experience, through academic research, internships, or industrial roles
- Working knowledge of characterization techniques such as FTIR, ICP-MS, XRF, UV-Vis-NIR, or mechanical testing equipment
