Job Summary
Entry Chemical Operator on a shift team responsible for operating chemical manufacturing equipment and processes to produce pharmaceutical bulk active ingredients and intermediates. Operate reactors, kettles, stills, filters, centrifuges, and pumps; interpret instruments (temperature, pressure, vacuum, flow) and adjust as needed; maintain accurate Batch Log Records; perform simple analyses (pH, foreign matter, Ash test, LOD, Kf); use EHS monitoring tools (Draeger Tube) and collect samples for lab logging. Communicate changes to coworkers, inform supervisor of deviations, and support safety, environmental and quality (cGMP) compliance. Perform basic equipment maintenance, drive fork/hand trucks, assist with validation/qualification, and seek process improvements. Adhere to SOPs, maintain good housekeeping, and adhere to Teamsters Local 676 membership requirements. Requires ability to work in a chemical manufacturing plant, stand for long periods, and tolerate extreme temperatures with appropriate PPE; overtime may be required.
Required Qualifications
- HS Diploma or equivalent is required
- Must be able to read and write legibly in English
- Must be able to perform mathematical calculations such as yield and scale-down batch ratios
- Prior bulk pharmaceutical experience or batch chemical experience is required
- Must be able to obtain respiratory clearance
- Must also be clean shaven to wear a face respirator when required
- Must be able to do heavy physical work and climb stairs
- Must be able to work overtime
- Membership into TEAMSTERS Local 676 is required for this position
