Job Summary
Instruct small groups of students in English core skills to promote long-term understanding and top scores in college readiness exams like the ACT and SAT. Track student progress through Vanguard's unique multi-phase curriculum, maintaining lesson schedules and holding students accountable for assignments while modeling professionalism. Spearhead the development and creative execution of ever-evolving lesson plans and curriculum, guiding middle and high school students with empathy. Work independently and in a team environment during Tuesday through Thursday evenings and weekend hours, utilizing MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. This role offers a distinctive, individualized approach to test prep within a quickly-growing start-up environment that emphasizes creativity, collaboration, and leadership.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in a humanities field from US Schools (English, Creative Writing, Journalism, Publishing, etc.)
- Teaching experience in English and/or experience working in a college-level Writing Center (1+ years)
- Demonstrated academic excellence (e.g., 3.5+ GPA)
- Strong verbal skills and mastery of the English language
- Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and G-Suites
- Access to a reliable internet connection and a workspace with minimal noise/distraction
- Commitment to work during Hours of Operations: Mondays and Fridays: Closed; Tuesdays to Thursdays: 1:30 pm CST to 9:30 pm CST; Saturdays and Sundays: 9:30 am CST to 5:30 pm CST
Desired Qualifications
- Master's or higher
- Experience teaching at the college or community college level
- Robust understanding of classroom pedagogy and the ability to create customized, engaging lesson plans that use practical, real-world examples to inspire a love for learning
