Job Summary
Instruct small groups of students in English core skills to promote long-term understanding and top scores on college readiness exams. Track student progress through Vanguard's unique multi-phase curriculum, maintaining lesson schedules and holding students accountable for assignments. Spearhead the development and creative execution of evolving lesson plans and curriculum while modeling professionalism through timely communication. Guide middle and high school students with empathy, fostering a love for learning through practical, real-world examples. Work independently and within a team environment to support students navigating the competitive college application process.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in a humanities field from US Schools (English, Creative Writing, Journalism, Publishing, etc.)
- Teaching experience in English and/or experience working in a college-level Writing Center (1+ years)
- Demonstrated academic excellence (e.g., 3.5+ GPA)
- Strong verbal skills and mastery of the English language
- Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and G-Suites
- Access to a reliable internet connection and a workspace with minimal noise/distraction
- Commitment to work during Hours of Operations: Mondays and Fridays: Closed; Tuesdays to Thursdays: 1:30 pm CST to 9:30 pm CST; Saturdays and Sundays: 9:30 am CST to 5:30 pm CST
Desired Qualifications
- Master's or higher
- Experience teaching at the college or community college level
- Robust understanding of classroom pedagogy and the ability to create customized, engaging lesson plans that use practical, real-world examples to inspire a love for learning
- Desire to help students recognize, reach for, and realize their fullest potential
- A dynamic and outgoing personality
- The ability to work both independently and in a team environment
