Job Summary
Teach ESOL courses with clear, measurable objectives using student-centered strategies while assisting with intake, placement, and advising for new and returning students. Create and revise curriculum and assessments to enhance program effectiveness, prepare detailed syllabi addressing competencies and grading methodologies, and provide regular performance reports to students and administration. Demonstrate ongoing professional development, successfully complete important assessments, and advise the Student Organization of Latinos. Maintain a student-oriented approach to education and support college-wide initiatives through consultation with faculty, administrators, and staff.
Required Qualifications
- College-level ESOL teaching experience
- Demonstrated participation in interdisciplinary teaching and learning initiatives
- Knowledge of curriculum development and trends, especially regarding expedited assimilation
- Ability to perform well in an urban community college serving a diverse population
- Documented record of establishing and maintaining appropriate professional relationships
- Knowledge of classroom technology best practices as related to language acquisition
- A Master's or higher degree in TESOL, Linguistics, or Applied Linguistics
- Experience teaching and relating to individuals from a wide range of academic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds
- Must be able to work a variable schedule/hour to meet operational needs
- May require evening and weekend hours
- Must be able to stand, talk, hear, walk, and sit
- Occasionally, the employee may need to push or lift items
- Successful completion of a background check on all persons recommended for employment
- Three (3) professional references with phone number and email addresses are required
Desired Qualifications
- PhD in TESOL, Linguistics, or Applied Linguistics
- Teaching experience in an open enrollment, urban community college
- Experience with a Learning Management System such as Blackboard
- Experience in learner-centered pedagogy
- Preference may be given to persons fluent in a second language, especially Spanish
