Job Summary

Conduct inspection, testing, maintenance, installation, and repair of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, safety, and building systems to maintain facility conditions and provide temporary utility services for exhibitions and trade shows. Operate building control systems for temperature and lighting management while accurately inputting data into department computers for documentation and reporting. Respond promptly to requests, proactively inspect facilities to address problems, and perform assigned tasks with limited supervision using various tools and personal protective equipment. Maintain a safe, secure environment by following policies, codes, and safety regulations while keeping work areas clean and organized. Work up to a 12-hour shift with varying days, including nights, holidays, and weekends, under the direction of the Chief Engineer and Engineering Supervisor.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Two or more years of experience in commercial or facility general maintenance
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Strong communications skills, written and verbal
  • Basic mathematical skills
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Basic knowledge of Momentous
  • Basic knowledge of BlueBeam
  • Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily
  • Must be able to perform a variety of semi-skilled inspection, testing, maintenance, installation and repair tasks in multiple trades
  • Must be able to maintain Convention Center buildings, systems, equipment, furnishings, fixtures and campus in proper condition
  • Must be able to provide temporary electrical, air, water and gas services
  • Must be available for up to a 12-hour work shift
  • Must be available for varying days and shift times including nights, holidays, and weekends
  • Must be able to follow Convention Center policies and procedures, applicable codes, and safety regulations
  • Must be able to operate Building Control Systems
  • Must be able to layout, install and remove temporary electrical, air, water, and gas services
  • Must be able to accurately input data into department computers
  • Must be able to respond to requests promptly
  • Must be able to perform tasks with a demonstrated sense of urgency
  • Must be able to proactively inspect facilities and equipment
  • Must be able to perform work on his/her own without more than limited supervision
  • Must be able to plan work to minimize time and material needed
  • Must be able to maintain working knowledge of facility utility and life safety systems locations and operation
  • Must be able to use and maintain various meters, test instruments, drills, saws and other power and hand tools
  • Must be able to utilize powered aerial lifts, scaffold and ladders to perform elevated work
  • Must be able to utilize and properly maintain assigned Personal Protective Equipment
  • Must be able to communicate work activities and status to Chief Engineer / Engineering Supervisor and affected departments in a timely manner
  • Must be able to maintain up-to-date knowledge of position requirements and attend in-service education classes
  • Must be able to occasionally perform duties of Engineering Technician II
  • Must be able to maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean, safe, and organized fashion
  • Must be able to maintain a safe, secure, pleasant environment for clients, visitors, and co-workers
