Job Summary
Engineering Technician with a strong structural background and Alteration Installation Team leadership to support Navy ship modernization and sustainment in Norfolk, VA. Oversees installation, modification, and repair of ship structures; leads hull, mechanical, and structural repairs; interprets NAVSEA drawings and technical specifications; supervises shipfitters, welders, and helpers; ensures safety, quality, and compliance with NAVSEA standards, ABS, OSHA, and company policies; tracks daily progress, labor, and material usage; may perform Site Foreman duties and use Microsoft Project in plans and milestones; requires the ability to work on ships and in shipyard environments and to obtain DoD Secret clearance.
Required Qualifications
- Target experience of ten (10) years of experience in shipfitting or structural ship repair, with at least three (3) years in a supervisory or lead role
- Technical expert in shipboard structural repairs including insert installation, hull cuts, and steel fabrication
- Strong understanding of NAVSEA drawings, OQE documentation, and structural inspection processes
- Proven leadership skills in a shipboard or industrial repair environment
- Eligible to obtain a DoD Secret Security Clearance
- Proficient in reading NAVSEA drawings, welding symbols, and installation specifications
