Job Summary
Design and simulate optical systems for automotive headlamp and signal lamp systems using LEDs, molded lenses, and reflectors. Collaborate with project teams to develop new designs meeting regulatory, customer, performance, and cost targets. Perform and coordinate testing and validation using goniometers, integrating spheres, and spectroradiometers. Research and apply industry standards including FMVSS 108 and UN Regulations. Develop design and testing standards for lamp mechanical and optical components. Partner with Manufacturing and Quality to resolve process and quality issues. Source components and validate suppliers to ensure they meet specifications and cost targets. Support Sales in quoting new business and providing technical input for customer engagements. Mentor less-experienced engineers in design, manufacturing processes, and best practices.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field
- Extensive experience in optical engineering design for automotive headlamps and/or signal lamps
- Demonstrated experience with automotive lighting manufacturing processes including injection molding, plastic part assembly, and coatings
