Job Summary
Lead or support the conceptualization, design, construction, and deployment of individual plasma diagnostics to ensure machine protection, real-time control, and investigations on advanced fusion stellarators. Develop and apply data analysis models for diagnostics while supporting mechanical, nuclear, and electrical engineering applications. Participate in planning, execution, and analysis of experiments to drive progress on diagnostic systems critical to achieving research and commercial goals. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on similar projects throughout Type One Energy. This full-time role in Knoxville, TN, reports to the Director of Electrical and Software Engineering and requires a B.S. in Engineering Physics or related field.
Required Qualifications
- B.S. in Engineering Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
- Familiarity in designing, developing, and/or operating advanced diagnostic systems for fusion or plasma physics experiments
- Experience in data acquisition, analysis, and interpretation using scientific software and programming languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB)
- Familiarity with Computer Aided Design and Analysis software
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to diagnostic systems
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, present findings to diverse audiences, and contribute to scientific publications and proposals
- Familiarity with safety protocols and procedures related to fusion experiments and diagnostics

- Knowledge of fusion stellarator concepts, including device physics and operational requirements
