Job Summary
Lead the team responsible for automated weather monitoring and risk systems that drive real-time go/no-go decisions for Zipline missions. Own the flyable weather envelope, validation strategy across simulation and real-world operations, and the deployment of scalable weather models and sensing systems. Define operational constraints, improve uptime and customer experience, and communicate system implications to cross-functional teams (customer, fulfillment, and flight operations). This is a senior leadership role in a fast-scaling operational system, requiring prioritization across safety, uptime, model performance, and deployment speed.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of industry experience with leadership or demonstrated readiness to lead a small high-performing team (3-5 direct reports)
- Deep fluency in scientific Python and data-analysis tools (Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, Matplotlib, Xarray, NetCDF)
- Ability to learn and work in production languages and systems (Rust, C++, Kubernetes, AWS)
- Experience with geospatial and meteorological datasets, formats, and tooling
- Strong ability to process large datasets across distributed systems; experience with Kafka or other streaming systems is highly valuable
- Foundations in descriptive statistics, probability, linear algebra, machine learning, and statistical modeling
- Ability to communicate complex analytical results to technical, operational, and executive audiences
- Eligible to work in the United States and able to travel globally as needed
- Experience with or ability to learn aircraft flight, aviation weather, or aviation regulation
