Job Summary
Engineering Manager for Umbra Space Systems, based on-site in Santa Barbara/Goleta, CA. Lead a multi-disciplinary engineering team focused on design, test, implementation, and support of cutting-edge satellite technology. Collaborate with hardware, software, and product teams, and interface with senior leadership to drive innovation, improve processes, and ensure on-time delivery and technical quality. Responsibilities include personnel management, headcount planning, recruitment, performance evaluations, and mentoring; applying agile methodologies to sprint planning and execution; maintaining compliance with legal, security, and company policy requirements; and coordinating with the VP of Space Systems on departmental goals. Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related STEM field, 10+ years in aerospace, 5+ years of engineering management, and strong program-management and communication skills. Compensation range $195,000–$235,000 DOE.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related STEM field
- 10+ years of professional experience in aerospace engineering
- 5+ years of direct engineering personnel management
- Proven experience leading engineering teams including hiring, performance management, career development, succession planning, workload allocation
- Proficiency in traditional project management practices (critical path analysis, resource planning, schedule management tools such as MS Project)
- Working knowledge of Agile methodologies (Scrum, SAFe) and tooling (Jira)
- Excellent communication and organizational skills, ability to engage across technical and executive stakeholders
Additional Requirements
- ITAR/EAR: U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or otherwise eligible to obtain required authorizations for export-controlled technology
