Job Summary
Engineering Manager (Ruby on Rails) — fully remote role based in the EU. Lead and mentor a backend-focused squad, stay hands-on with the Rails codebase, and own the technical architecture for scalable backend systems. Design, review, and ship features while driving best practices (testing, observability, security) and exploring AI-enabled tooling (agentic workflows, LLM integrations). Collaborate with product managers and engineering leadership to translate roadmaps into technical plans, foster an environment for engineers to grow, and coordinate across distributed teams in EU/India timezones.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of backend engineering experience
- 2-3 years in engineering management or technical lead capacity
- Strong hands-on experience with Ruby on Rails
- Experience designing and evolving backend systems at scale
- Comfortable working on a large Rails monolith and evolving it
- Exposure to agentic AI or LLM tooling and ability to bring that thinking to the team
- Strong async communication and ability to collaborate with distributed teams across EU/India timezones
