Engineering Manager, Revenue and Retail

Job Summary
Lead and coach software engineers across Sales & Retail and Personalisation & Data tribes, managing individual performance, growth plans, and team wellbeing. Recruit and onboard engineering talent while building capable, motivated teams aligned with Finnair's engineering standards and practices. Ensure delivery predictability by tracking health metrics, removing impediments, and driving continuous improvement in quality, DevOps, and AI-assisted development. Partner with Lead Software Engineers, Product, Design, and Delivery Leads to set technical direction and execution priorities. Represent teams to stakeholders and act as the escalation point for people and delivery issues. Report to the Head of Retail Engineering and work within a hybrid model at HQ near Helsinki Airport.
Required Qualifications
- 5–8+ years in software development
- 2+ years in a people leadership or team lead role
- Enough hands-on engineering depth to earn your engineers' trust: you can follow technical and architecture discussions, ask the right questions, and make informed decisions, without needing to own the design yourself
- Experience working in agile, product-led environments where engineers own outcomes, not just delivery
- Strong coaching and mentoring skills: you develop people, give direct feedback, and handle conflict constructively
- The ability to partner with technical leads and principal engineers without directly owning architecture
- Effective communication across technical and non-technical stakeholders
- A track record of hiring and retaining engineering talent
- A genuine interest in how AI is changing the way engineering teams work
- Strong written and spoken English
- a Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field (or equivalent experience)
- The role sits within Finnair's Digital Engineering team and is based at Finnair HQ near Helsinki Airport

Desired Qualifications
- Experience in e-commerce, retail, or other high-traffic, consumer-facing products
- Background in airline, travel, or another regulated domain
- Experience managing teams across multiple squads or sub-teams
