Engineering Manager (Mechanical Design) – Industrial Automation

Job Summary
Lead a team of up to 10 Mechanical Design Engineers by conducting regular one-on-ones, managing performance evaluations, and driving continuous improvement in design processes. Provide strategic technical direction across the department, ensuring designs meet quality, safety, and manufacturability standards while leading design reviews and establishing best practices for CAD modeling, GD&T, and documentation. Plan and allocate resources for multiple custom automation projects, oversee Engineering Change Requests, and coordinate with Electrical, Controls, Manufacturing, and Procurement teams to achieve milestones. Remove roadblocks to support project teams in meeting customer commitments and champion operational excellence through standardization and Design for Manufacturing initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 7 years of mechanical design experience within industrial automation, robotics, packaging machinery, or custom machine building
- Demonstrated leadership experience, either formally managing teams or leading engineering projects
- Strong expertise with SolidWorks (or similar CAD software)
- Deep understanding of Mechanical design principles
- Deep understanding of GD&T
- Deep understanding of Pneumatic systems
- Deep understanding of Servo-driven machinery
- Deep understanding of Automated equipment design
- Proven ability to manage multiple engineering projects, priorities, and technical resources
- Excellent leadership, mentoring, communication, and decision-making skills
Desired Qualifications
- Experience managing engineering departments or technical teams
- Knowledge of Product Data Management (PDM) systems and document control
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing, continuous improvement, or process optimization initiatives
- Background in custom machine design or high-speed automation equipment
